Simple steps to beat stress

Stress is a matter of great concern today globally - bluntly put stress affects performance at every step in business & life. "Karoshi" the Japanese term to denote stress, has become a common and is very expensive in any workplace. Stress interferes with health,reduces productivty,the available physical strength & the individual emotional health.

Stress is due to varied reasons some of which are:

  1. Job insecurity - unreasonable demands in performance 
  2. Lack of communication - Yes it happens between colleagues,team leaders & senior management.
  3. Long working hours
  4. Less family &/or personal time
  5. Lack of opportunity to grow 
  6. Underpaid jobs
  7. A lack of timely promotion or recognition based promotion
  8. many more reasons 
Health effects of stress include but are not limited to

  1. High blood pressure
  2. Irregular heart beat - disturbed breathing
  3. Decreased intestinal movement,varied auto immune response
  4. Increased cholesterol & fatty acids in blood
  5. Faster blood clotting
  6. Variation of sugar levels in blood
  7. Increased stomach acids
Some general steps to reduce stress
  1. Deep breathing in a calm place full of fresh air - away from pollution
  2. Do high priority work first
  3. Balance family,friends & work into a schedule that works for you.
  4. Leave a little earlier & finish work on time
  5. Take small breaks & exercise - physical activity is a very well known stress buster
  6. Use humor at work
  7. Keep a can do & positive attitude in work & life
  8. Get adequate sleep & rest
  9. Take vacations &
  10. Make good friends & strengthen existing friendship
